Privacy Policy

VidUP (“VidUP,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the VidUP websites (including vidup.co and play.vidup.co), progressive web app, native apps, and related services (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. For how your content is licensed and hosted, see our Terms of Use.
1. Who this covers
This Policy applies to people who create a VidUP account, record or upload video, use our apps or websites, or load a play.vidup.co player page. If you paste a VidUP player on a site you control, visitors to that site may request video from our player; we process that delivery as described below. This Policy does not cover third-party sites where you embed the player, or Apple / Google billing, which have their own policies.
2. Information we collect
- Account: email address, password (stored hashed — we do not store plaintext passwords), plan selection, and account timestamps.
- Player code: a unique permanent player path (for example play.vidup.co/{code}) tied to your account.
- Video and captions: videos you record in-app or choose from your device, including the encoded file, burned-in mark, duration, dimensions, and optional captions you add for playback (captions are metadata shown on the player when enabled — not burned into the video file unless the product says otherwise).
- Technical and security: IP address, user agent, approximate request metadata, timestamps, and diagnostic logs needed to operate, secure, and debug the Service.
- Cookies and local storage: session cookies or equivalent storage needed to keep you signed in; player preference storage (for example caption on/off) on the device that views the player. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on VidUP properties.
- Communications: messages you send to hello@vidup.co, Help / Steve chat, or other get-in-touch channels, and content needed to respond.
- Payments: paid plans purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play are processed by those platforms. We receive subscription status and related entitlements; we do not receive your full payment card number from those stores.
3. How we use information
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service (account, player link, video replace, embeds, Help).
- Authenticate you, enforce plan limits (including take length), prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the Service secure.
- Send transactional email (for example a welcome message with your player link) when email sending is enabled. We do not sell your email for marketing lists.
- Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our Terms.
- Analyze aggregated or de-identified usage to improve reliability — not to sell your content as advertising inventory.
4. Legal bases (where applicable)
Where required (for example under GDPR/UK GDPR), we process personal data to perform our contract with you, based on your consent where we ask for it, for our legitimate interests in running a secure Service (balanced against your rights), and to meet legal obligations.
5. Where it’s stored and international transfers
Account data and player codes are stored in our Cloudflare-backed database. Video files are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage. Email, when enabled, may be sent via Resend. Infrastructure may process data in the United States and other regions where our providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate transfer mechanisms offered by those providers.
6. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only:
- With infrastructure and email providers who process data on our instructions to run the Service (currently Cloudflare; Resend when configured);
- With Apple or Google as needed for store billing and entitlements;
- When you make your player URL public — anyone with the link can view the current video (and captions if shown);
- If required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of VidUP, our users, or the public;
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy or successor notice.
7. Your player link and content
You own your recordings. We process them to host and deliver your player. Treat your player URL like a public webpage address. Replacing the video updates what visitors see at the same URL. We do not claim ownership of your footage, sell your videos as a dataset, or use them to train unrelated public AI models.
8. Retention
We keep account and video data while your account is active. When you delete a take or close your account, we delete or de-identify associated video and account data from active systems within a reasonable period, except where we must retain information for security, dispute, or legal compliance. Backups and logs may persist for a limited rolling period after deletion.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures appropriate to the Service (including encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; you use the Service at your own risk regarding residual security risk.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to appeal a denial. California and similar U.S. state laws may also give you rights to know, delete, and opt out of “sale” or “sharing” — we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are commonly defined for advertising. To exercise rights, email hello@vidup.co. We will verify requests as required and will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. You may also close your account and stop using the Service.
11. Children
VidUP is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Third-party services
Links, embeds on your site, store checkout, and third-party platforms are governed by those parties’ terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.
13. Changes
We may update this Policy. We will revise the “Last updated” date on this page. Material changes may also be called out in-product or by email when appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy.
